The War Between Democrats and RepublicansAnd why the DCCC has a bone to pick with Rush Limbaugh
Only a little more than two weeks after his inaguration, President Obama has already been attacked - and mostly not even for his politics
When describing President Barack Obama's term, most journalists have taken a liking to saying "the honeymoon's over", and scandalous politicians such as Nancy Killefer, Bill Richardson, and the now infamous Tom Daschle don't much help President Obama's case. It's gotten so bad that even "fake" news castors have begun making digs about his vetting process. The worst part, however, of the ended honeymoon is that some didn't bother to wait before the attack began. So Who Are the Offenders?Offender number one: Rush Limbaugh. By now, most everyone has heard about the Talk Radio show host's comments regarding his feelings on the new President. Limbaugh's comment - which can be heard here - has caused something of a war to break out between the Democrats and Republicans. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has begun a petition against Limbaugh, urging them to rise up and show how disgusting the comments were. "We need every grassroots Democrat to show Rush Limbaugh and all of the Republicans what they're up against if they start attacking President Obama and Democrats who are working to end the failed GOP policies of the last eight years," Says the e-mail they sent out. According to the DCCC's website, less than twenty four hours afterward, more than twenty thousand people had signed the petition. Offender number two: Fox News. The tagline for the news network is "Fair and Balanced" but ask ColorofChange.org, and a completely different picture is painted. Set up on their website is a way for people to send an e-mail to Roger Ailes, president of Fox News. It is in response to what they feel are slams on African Americans and attempts to spread fear and suspicion of the 44th President. The campaign started in 2008 when Barack Obama first got the Democratic nomination and he and his wife Michelle shared a fist bump. E.D. Hill, an anchor on Fox New labeled the move a "terrorist fist jab." What do they have to say for themselves? For the most part, there has been little apology made. Rush Limbaugh instead stated that he feels that President Obama is more afraid of him than "he is of John Boehner" and that he believes the Presidents wants him to fail. E.D. Hill, however, apologized, saying, "I apologize because, unfortunately, some thought I personally had characterized it inappropriately. I regret that. It was not my intention. And I certainly didn't mean to associate the word 'terrorist' in any way to Senator Obama and his wife." In any case, it is comments such as these that seem to continue the disdainful look many have on politics. That, in turn, divides the country: Democrats against Republicans, and unless they begin to set their differences aside and make amends, it makes one worry what the United States will look like in the future.
